    Bryce Milne
As part of National Rehabilitation Week, September 21st through September 27th, New England Rehabilitation Hospital of Portland celebrated the accomplishments of four exemplary patients. Our staff nominates and selects patients who have overcome major barriers while recovering and rehabilitating from illness or injury. Their achievements were recognized at an awards ceremony to be held on Wednesday, September 24, 2008.

Bryce Milne, from Saco, was selected as one of the patient award winners. Bryce was completely paralyzed from the neck down due to Guillian Barre Disease. He had to overcome many obstacles and he is now walking with assistance. He has been an inspiration to other patients in spirit and fortitude and recently has been visiting with a new patient who is also suffering with Guillian Barre. Jen Burr, his occupational therapist, states, "I feel it is important to acknowledge Bryce and do something special for him during National Rehab Week. His perseverance was never-ending while he was an inpatient at NERH and continues while he maintains his therapy in the outpatient center."

Today, Bryce plays real golf on the green through one of Maine Handicapped Skiing’s programs and during his therapy sessions in NERH’s gym on the Wii Nintendo system. We are very grateful to Bryce, as he donated the Wii and other patients will be able to have a little fun during their rehab as well.
