The Sandra Marriner Rehabilitation Nurse of the Year Award was developed as a way to honor Sandra, who was a Certified Rehabilitation Nurse, specializing in the care of spinal cord injury patients. She was a very professional and knowledgeable nurse who worked with a challenging population in a way that highlighted all that a Rehabilitation Nurse should be - a patient advocate, educator, coach, counselor and supporter - in a caring and firm way. The award recipient is nominated by peers, co-workers and physicians. A ceremony was held on May 9, 2007, during National Nurse's Week, to honor Ms. Morejon and Ms. Marriner.
Janet Corbett, RN, Nurse Manager, credits Ms. Morejon as "clinically very skilled. Sue is innovative and creative in serving the needs of rehab patients, by means of teaching patients and staff as well as developing efficient means of documentation."
Ms. Morejon received her Rehabilitation Nurse Certification in 1994. She was a nurse NERHP from 1991 to 1998, and returned to NERHP in 2004. Along with her role as shift coordinator and charge nurse, Ms. Morejon is a member of the Stroke Program Team.
