Lymphedema Program
New England Rehabilitation Hospital's Outpatient Center provides specialized medical rehabilitation services for individuals with lymphedema, a swelling in the limbs caused by damage to the lymphatic system. Damage to this system, which purifies and transports fluid back to the circulatory system, is most often caused by surgery, trauma, infection, or cancer therapies (i.e., radiation).
Goals
NERHP's outpatient Lymphedema Program is dedicated to:
- Controlling and reducing edema.
- Providing support and education to assist the patient in leading a full and productive life.
Services
Treatment sessions last approximately one hour for two to three weeks. Following a comprehensive evaluation, sessions consist of:
- Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage
- Bandaging
- Skin Care
- Exercise
- Patient/Family Education
- Compression Garment Fitting
- Outpatient Services
If necessary, sequential compression pumps are available.
